Technical Information

Monel 400 has excellent resistance to corrosion by many reducing media such as sulfuric and hydrochloric acids. It is generally more resistant to corrosion by oxidizing media than higher copper alloys. Monel 400 resists pitting and stress corrosion cracking in most fresh and industrial waters. It has good resistance in flowing seawater, but under stagnant conditions, pitting and crevice corrosion is induced. Monel 400 is probably the most resistant to hydrofluoric acid in all concentrations up to the boiling point, of all engineering alloys. Monel 400 is notable for its toughness, it does not show embrittlement tendency at cryogenic temperatures. It is work hardenable.

Technical Information

Monel 401 is a nickel-copper alloy with a very low coefficient of electrical resistivity and resistance to a wide variety of corrosive conditions. Like with commercially pure Nickel, AAlloy 401 is low in strength in the annealed condition and can only be cold worked to a maximum of 120 KSI.

Monel 401 has a very low temperature coefficient of resistance and medium-range electrical resistivity. It is used in specialized electrical and electronic Applications.

Monel 404 has low magnetic permeability and low Curie temperature. Because its low magnetic permeability is not significantly affected by processing and fabrication, it is particularly suitable for electronic parts.
